What percentage of USA budget should go to Military and Security?
Some nations, such as Japan, have constitutional and other restraints on the amount of money to be spent on defense or security to under 5% or 10% of budget.
Official spending for 2011 just for USA's Department of Defense (not the entire security budget) was over 700 billion dollars or about 30% of the total official budget for that year. The budgets for past DOD expenses, past wars, for the current NSA, CIA, Homeland Security and Secret funds total more than that for 2014. So, the USA is spending at a rate of over 65% of the official budget annually on defense and security.
If
the USA were to have restraints--for example constitutional ones--related to
regulating what percentage of federal moneys should go to security and
defense, which percentage do you believe is best? i.e.
What percentage of USA budget should go to Military and Security?
