People wearing face coverings will take in fewer coronavirus particles, evidence suggests, making disease less severe. However, in some cases, low viral loads can be obtained by going maskless too: biking, jogging etc. expose people to low levels of CV, theoretically building up immunity.

Also, a recent study finds 23% of New Yorkers already have some immunity to the Corona virus. This may be the reason why New York state seems to have peaked, despite people congregating like they do in states where the disease is still increasing.
