(Rubio bicycled 285 miles from Las Cruces to the capitol!)
Rep. Angelica Rubio (D-Las Cruces) sponsors House Bill 287 (baring New Mexico from providing state land for the construction of the Trump wall), said an expensive wall would interfere with wildlife — without improving public safety.
“It has always been a binational community where we have experienced what it be means to be Mexican and what it means to be American,” Rubio said. “The wall is a metaphor for dividing two communities that have essentially survived and been a part of something that in my opinion has been really beautiful.”
HB 287 affects 22 miles of state land along NM's border with Chihuahua and Sonora, and would bar the state from awarding or renewing contracts to companies that are providing goods or services to the federal government for the construction of the wall.
