Delegates at the  annual NAACP convention  stood up to the charter school lobby and the billionaires that support it, passing a resolution to put a moratorium on the expansion of privately managed charter schools, and resolutions against the excessive disciplinary practices, waste, fraud, and sorting and selecting of students in admissions associated with charters. Using stark language, it noted that “charter schools with privately appointed boards do not represent the public but make decisions about how public funds are spent which led to increased segregation rather than the diverse integration seen in  public schools.  Weak oversight of charter schools puts students and communities at risk;  expansions in low-income communities mirror predatory lending practices that led to the sub-prime mortgage disaster."
