So, what tools do we have? The President, as Commander in Chief, holds considerable power to act. Thanks to legal precedents, the president enjoys immunity for certain actions taken to protect national security. Couldn't election manipulation and domestic terrorism be considered national security threats? If so, the President can act-- whether through declaring a state of emergency or outlawing armed militias.
More than just rhetoric is needed here. The President can work with legal experts to devise robust strategies for safeguarding the election-- strategies that involve not just defending the process but preventing interference in the first place. And these actions must be taken now, not after the damage is done.
Waiting until after the election to pursue legal remedies, to counter violence, or to secure voting procedures is simply too late. The election's integrity, and perhaps even the future of our democracy, could already be lost by then.
The time to act is now. Inaction leads to disaster, chaos, and irreversible harm. The threat of domestic unrest isn't just theoretical; it's already pushing at the gates. If we fail to act, the consequences will be catastrophic-- not just for this election but for the very soul of American democracy.
We must choose action over inaction.
