In 2020, 932 bicyclists were killed and 335,000 injured according to National Safety Council. Children used to ride bicycles to school. Our children are now out of shape because of a lack of physical exercise and the reduction in Phys Ed classes. We should build bike paths to every school and connect them so that everyone can ride a bicycle without fear of getting run over by a car or truck.
- No Comprehensive Immigration Program
Comprehensive immigration reform, a policy concept that first gained currency in 2001 in the U.S. politics, would couple increased border enforcement with legalization for unauthorized immigrants and the ability to bring in future workers needed by the U.S. labor market. In 2013, a bipartisan group of eight senators known as the "Gang of Eight" drafted a major piece of amnesty legislation entitled the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013, which would have provided a path to citizenship for the approximately 11 million illegal aliens already in the country. Nothing has been done in the past decade, creating chaos at the border and with the illegal immigrants in the United States. With our aging population we need young workers to come to this country to work on farms and in factories.
- One Senator Can Block Everything
In the U.S. Senate, standing rules allow one senator to put a hold on confirmations and legislation. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, a former football coach, put a hold on all military promotions and nominees because he opposes the Department of Defense policy to reimburse travel expenses for military personnel who have to leave their states to get abortions or other reproductive care. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has criticized him for the risks posed to national security by leaving hundreds of military posts vacant. The Senate can change its standing rules. Allowing one Senator so much power is undemocratic and just "plain dumb".
We all know the current government system in the United States is not working. We must reverse our stupid mistakes, and if we do, the system will work much better.
