This is no way to make Chinese Dale Carnegie's task easy.
Cut to Hong Kong.
China has gone back on its words on maintaining the democratic way of life in erstwhile British territory - a promise made at the time the Britain handed over the enclave to the Communist regime. A 'credible, lovable and respectable' China should not come down heavily on the pro-democracy campaigners. But this is what President Xi's apparatchiks have done and set the stage for China totally swallows Hong Kong.
Around the time President Xi was talking about making China a more amiable country, its jet fighters were hovering over Malaysia.
"Our jets have not violated international flying rules", says China disingenuously. It, however, frets and fumes and issues threats over imaginary violations of recognized maritime lanes in the South China Sea by the ships of America, Japan or other countries that are not ready to be bullied by the Dragon.
Hypocricy is not a virtue that pump primes a benign image in market driven world. Instead, it ends up as the albatross.
For its badly needed image nirvana, China should work on limiting the number of its 'enemies' rather than embark on President Xi's 'Lovable Dragon' Mission.
