It appears these European leaders don't want to be left on the sidelines of a potential peace agreement between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Last week we saw Russian and US diplomats meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to re-establish diplomatic ties between them that were severed by the Biden administration after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Trump and Putin in their phone call with each other discussed ending the war in Ukraine, traveling to each other's countries with a likely summit between them in the not too distant future.

Though both men indicated they want the war to end as soon as possible it's doubtful either one expressed the details of potential negotiations.

However, even Trump recognizes Russia is winning the war and will likely retain Crimea, Lugansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporzhia regions that through popular referendums chose to join the Russian Federation. Trump also signaled Ukraine won't be joining NATO and new elections for President of Ukraine will need to be held. As for a peace keeping force after an agreement is reached this would have to be approved by the UN Security Council. Putin has said the EU sending a peace-keeping force without the approval by the Security Council would be targeted as enemy combatants. Trump has said he wouldn't include US boots on the ground as part of any peace-keeping force once an agreement is reached saying that should be the responsibility of the Europeans.

Lastly though the Europeans still support Zelensky and don't want to remain on the sidelines in any peace agreement ending the war it's hard to see them having a significant impact even if they're invited to join in the peace negotiations. They threw their hats in the ring supporting Biden and his total support of Zelensky and Ukraine.

They all but sacrificed their sovereignty going along with Biden. Now they have to deal with Trump.

And Trump, like him or hate him, is a completely different piece of work than Biden.
