The two nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in 1945 killed over 210,000 people and damaged an entire nation forever. And the current international arsenal holds much more than only two bombs - leave alone the fact that nobody knows the power of destruction of each one of them, as it can vary according to its design. And yet it is easy to imagine that they are capable of erasing human race off the surface of Earth.
The sad truth is that the treaty won't be real while even just one country decide to keep their nuclear arsenal -- so the others will always say that they must keep their own weapons so to remain safe and protect their citizens. So all that can be done at the moment is hope for the best.
