Corporate America, without question, controls this Congress, both the House and Senate, and rules each with an iron fist. It also controls America's political process and can either make or break any candidate for office with its money and power. Corporatism has corrupted this government and this Congress by effectively removing the principles of ethics and integrity from the legislative process.
A major question is: which of America's most egregious problems has this Congress solved? Wait! A better question is: which of these festering problems has this Congress even addressed, let alone solved?
Has it made serious, substantive efforts to reduce the monumental deficit of over $16 trillion? No!
Has it taken steps to significantly reduce the $1.2 trillion that is being spent for national security, including an agenda of perpetual war and an ever-expanding military empire? Absolutely not!
How about the need to rebuild this nation's manufacturing sector and create millions of new jobs that will energize the economy? Certainly not!
Has it created legislation to aid in the development of new sources of energy, create a full-blown universal health care system for all Americans, or address the issue of climate change? No, no and no!
The issue of gun safety controls is a prime example of the fact that the majority of members of this Congress are no more than controlled puppets of the NRA and the gun manufacturers. Comprehensive background checks should be mandatory, no one should be exempt. There should be no place, none whatsoever, in America for high powered, rapid fire pistols and rifles, whether they are called assault weapons or otherwise, no place for high capacity magazines and armor piercing bullets -- not in a civilized society.
Does this Congress have the intellectual and moral capacity to do something of substance regarding the tremendous need to enact meaningful gun safety legislation? Do these stone hearted, conscienceless politicians, primarily Republicans but also too many Democrats, need to be shown heartbreaking pictures of slaughtered children to shake them out of their unyielding support of the gun manufacturers and the gun lobbyists? Do these controlled politicians have any understanding of the principles of morality, of the difference between right and wrong?
