Additionally, empowering civil society within Venezuela is crucial. Strengthening local organizations, supporting independent media, and protecting human rights defenders would no doubt help rebuild a democratic culture and provide a counterbalance to the authoritarian tendencies of the government.
Ultimately, any resolution must be the initiative of Venezuelans themselves, respecting the sovereignty and desires of the Venezuelan people while addressing the underlying issues of governance, economic collapse, and social fragmentation.
International actors can and should support this process by ensuring that any intervention is aimed at long-term stability and the restoration of democracy, rather than short-term political gains.
