Still, we come a long way from those darkest days when Little Bush and his imperial
wizards sought to control more than just foreign continents. Churchill once said "The
empires of the future are the empires of the mind", and now I think I see what he meant.
If we survive this, we will have saved more than Asian peasants or Latin American
campesinos from the American imperial machine. Indeed, we will have saved - or had it
saved for us - more than even American democracy.
Ultimately, what we poor slobs in the reality-based community will have saved is the
empires of our minds, the capacity to think and perceive the truth. What we will have
saved is reality itself.
