Why are we singling Iran out? Other mid-east countries embarking on nuclear power are: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Jordan and Yemen. Of course, their ambitions are 'peaceful' also, so why are we not threatening them?
Any way you dice it, a war with Iran is a non-win if a good portion of the rest of the mid-east either joins in or is clobbered by it. The obvious scenario to me is that an all out attack on Iran will so disrupt the worlds oil supplies that jump starting it won't be easy, fast or maybe even possible, which will tank the economies of everybody and have it's own series of repercussions.
The purpose of this brief is not to advance or deny the U.S. ability or desire to go to war with Iran. The author believes the rhetoric is dangerous in our present economic and military situation. The purpose of this brief is to create a strategic platform to view the intended and unintended ramifications of the proposed actions.
Now the National Intelligence Evaluation clearly matches most of the rest of the worlds intelligence agencies and say there is no active weapons research in their nuclear program. In that vein, Mr. Bush remains undeterred. Never let knowledge or facts get in the way of ideology.
