Halfway Home is the title of Abbott’s EP, which was produced by Malcolm Burn, who has also produced  Emmylou Harris’s acclaimed Red Dirt Girl.

Abbott still feels the after-effects and a certain amount of post traumatic stress, though. She is tough, but not a mountain.

“Survival mode” is how Abbott described achieving some sense of normalcy. Is she there yet?

“The first song I heard on play-back in the studio was ‘I Can Take It.’ The moment felt very awkward—one of those moments that said ‘here I am.’ I felt completely and totally vulnerable.”

She may feel vulnerable, but Abbott has already proven that she is a survivor and offers no excuses. Ready to move forward in the city she now calls “home,” Abbott is a well-respected regular on the club circuit, and is humble enough to take the opening act slot when it is offered. Check her out here. If Danna Abbott’s smoky, soothing voice doesn’t immediately win you over, great songwriting certainly will.

NOTE: Next up we will feature singer/songwriter Ruby Rendrag, a New Orleans native, and get her perspective on the challenges of writing and working in the city she has always called home.
