A few more cat calls were now emanating from the audience.
And thus it was time for Mr. Siegal to read the first question from the audience: "What would it take to make Israel believe that the Palestinians are serious about peace?"
"Stop incitement. If Fayyad had military support," said Tobin.
He said another interesting thing: "I think Israel should talk to everybody."
"What it will take, is not that much: If Abbass/Fayyad put their signature on a document! Dividing the Palestinian political culture dictates that the signature cannot go on the paper," said Tobin.
"Egypt! Sadat went to the Knesset sincerely committed to peace and Israel public opinion shifted,"said Masters. "The same can happen with Jerusalem and, (the territories), in Israel. They, (Israelis and Palestinians), are incapable of making this work themselves. They need us to help," he said.
Tobin responded: "I don't think American Jews should take sides against the Israeli people."
There was a question about J Street: "J Street U is on fifty campuses as part of Hillel," said Masters. He went on to say that; "J Street has a $4 million budget with six lobbyists, a staff of forty three and twenty three locals around the country." This brought a loud cry from someone in the audience that J Street was funded by George Soros. "Soros has not given any funds to J Street," Masters replied after getting the approval of the moderator.
