How about Michael Winship describing the behavior as "irrational" and blaming television for the increase? Take off the blinders, dude. A cursory look at the history of interventions shows there's nothing irrational about the US gov't's lethal use of state power. It has a clearly defined purpose. It follows a predictable and, from the perspective of the ones carrying out the act, a very specific logic: the US gets what it wants or it unleashes death and destruction on a massive scale. That citizens of the US have learned to mimic the actions of their gov't seems only natural.
So cheer up. In spite of what Superman says, state-sponsored violence is still the "American Way." The only difference is we're all doing it now, right out in the open. Bomb, invade, destroy, slaughter. It's no rough beast, but it'll do.
