One of the serious weaknesses of 'progressive' psychology has always been the belief that human evil is only 'institutional' in its origin and not 'natural' to man (as though the institutions were created by something other than man). But taking responsibility for your choices means more than political change or institutional change. It means going into your own darkness and refusing to support it or remain ignorant about it. It means going into your own past and the past of the nation and of the world and looking into its darkness and refusing to support it or remain ignorant about it. It has all been a very long time coming. And it is America Now.
