House speaker. Mike Johnson says it was "a shameful day in American history." I agree.
While talking heads at CNN and MSNBC were joyful in their analysis of the trial results, every Fox News host or guest, including many leading Republican elected officials, attacked the United States legal system, the judicial system, the judge, the prosecutors , and of course, the guilty verdict.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the trial a kangaroo court. "This is what you see in communist. Countries," Marco Rubio stated, comparing the US legal system to Cuba's.
A BBC article titled, Attack Trump Verdict or Be Exiled, describes how there is now a litmus test for Republicans. They either attack, not only the trial and the guilty verdict, but the entire United States legal system, or they will be "dead."
When former Republican Governor, Larry Hogan, who is now running for the Senate in Maryland, said, " respect the verdict and the legal process," a high level Trump campaign official responded, saying, " you just ended your campaign." The BBC article author observed that Republicans now have to get totally on board with attacking the US legal system or they are dead.
So I agree with Mike Johnson, this is a shameful day in American history. But it's shameful because the Republican party is now attacking the US legal system, attempting to destroy trust and faith in the judicial system. That is after they have for years now, attacked the election and voting system. These systems are, indeed, flawed, but they are essential to American democracy.

This is how psychopaths function. They gaslight you and make you feel like you're broken or wrong or sick if they don't get their way, if they don't win, and crush their adversary. And the whole world is their adversary until they are cowed into submission as passive authoritarian sheep.
I've written before, in my article,
Who knows what will come next from MAGAt, Trump world? It is a certainty that Trump will demand that his followers cult members repeat the lies and distortions the Trump campaign generates. I fear that as Trump gets more desperate, he will encourage violence. This has already started and will get worse. Trump has already begun attacking laws and regulations, protecting people, communities and businesses. We can expect that to get worse.
In the early 1930s Sinclair Lewis wrote a prophetic book, It Can't Happen Here, which predicted the behavior of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. We've already seen the beginnings of this. To simply be in Republican good graces, a person must lie, distort facts and bow down in obesience to Trump.
So, yes, these are shameful times for America, but the shame lies, like rotting vomit, on the right-wing media, Republican leaders and Trump 's magat cult.
