Read just about any daily Opednews e-newsletter or front page and it's clear that the congress, the government, the White House are helping corporations, helping the one percent, the military, industrial, pharma/agra complex to consolidate power, and protect themselves from liabilities and controls on their predations and abuses of justice, democracy and human rights.
Asking Congress or the White House or the DOJ to help is like asking wolves to protect a henhouse. It ain't happening. We need big change that does not depend upon nor expect the aforementioned agencies to do a goddamned thing.
I haven't given up on making change happen but it's going to happen because people wake up and decide not to take it anymore. It's going to happen because people stop buying into this system, stop buying from the companies that support the system, stop supporting the organizations and media that enable the system.
I've said it before. It will not require 50% plus one, not even close. But it could require ten or twenty percent of dedicated people working to make the change happen, working to wake up the rest of the deluded masses.
DEDICATED. That's the key concept. You don't get tired. You don't get burned out or discouraged. You face the reality that most Americans don't have a clue what's going on. They watch mainstream TV news, which serves the system and the powers that be. They live lives distracted by entertainment and spend little if any of their lives. It's not easy to wake them up or raise their consciousness because it's comfy to believe that all's well and the people in charge are looking out for their interests.
What's the "wake-up" solution? Well, first, don't challenge their most cherished deeply held beliefs. Show them examples that they are more open to seeing and believing. Get them starting to open up to questioning the system, the powers that be. Get them to start looking at stories that erode their faith and trust in the system. The system is, at best, broken, but, far more likely, not broken and instead, working exactly as the people in charge want it to work-- exploiting the 99 percent, exploiting the planet to the service of a tiny handful of elites.
The truth is, this is not going to be a fight or battle. We need to wake people up and get them to embrace bottom-up ideas and values that humans have lived with for 99% of their history and prehistory -- cooperation, sharing, interdependence, compassion, decentralized localization, caring, community. That's more about getting people to remember, at a DNA level, what they've forgotten. We can do this.
