The toxic water in the storage tanks at the wrecked Fukushima nuclear site keeps accumulating, in 1000 tanks, that can store about 1000 tons each. A plan has been approved to release this water into the Pacific, supposedly after it has been cleaned of radioactivity.

Japan's nuclear regulator has approved a plan by [TEPCO] to drain filtered wastewater from the firm's crippled Fukushima Daiichi plant into the sea" The firm also plans to reduce the level of radioactive material in the water before releasing it into the nearby Pacific. On Wednesday, the Nuclear Regulation Authority approved TEPCO's plan to install drainpipes and a pumping system and to reduce the level of radioactive cesium-137 to less than one becquerel per liter...Tepco is using a processing system [that] is unable to take out the tritium... there is no detailed study about tritium's long-time effect on animal genes....

Dr. Gordon Edwards, court-certified nuclear expert, Aug 8, 2014 (50:00 in): It can't be dumped into the ocean, because it's completely unsafe because of these fission products. They have built over 1,000 large tanks, huge tanks" that contain this very, very radioactively contaminated water. At the moment they're trying to filter out these fission products" It's impossible for them to remove all those hundreds of radioactive materials. They know how to remove about 62 of them, but there's other ones that they cannot.

The tanks are dangerous.

In a pledge to the nation and to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe when he visited the stricken plant in Fukushima Prefecture, 220 km northeast of Tokyo, in Sept. 2013, TEPCO President Naomi Hirose vowed that the embattled utility would complete the filtration process of all the dangerously toxic water being held in temporary storage tanks by March 2015. As it stands, at the stricken plant...280, 000 tons of highly-radioactive water is in need of treating and being stored in tanks, with around 350 tons of toxic water being added daily, to keep the reactors cool.

Birds and animals in the Pacific Ocean are dying off in great numbers.

There are dying oysters, bleeding herring, melting star fish, hungry Orcas and sick seals. The latest are dead seabirds" Some blame ocean acidification for the devastation, others wonder if it's radiation fallout from Fukushima. Whatever, it might be helpful to find the cause before all the creatures are gone.
