Saadi Shirazi
The following poem comes from Saadi's book Gulistan or Golestan (chapter 1, story 10), completed in 1258 A.D.
"Gli esseri umani sono membri di un tutto, In creazione di un'essenza ed un'anima. Se un membro à ¨ afflitto dal dolore, Gli altri membri saranno a disagio. Se non hai compassione per il dolore umano, Non puoi mantenere il nome di essere umano.
Literal translation from Saadi's book:
Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul.
If one member is afflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain, The name of human you cannot retain
This poem has been displayed at United Nations' entrance hall since late 1960s, in addition to a large Persian carpet, a gift from Iranian people to the world body which has brought misery to Iranian people because of Western illegal sanctions.
Iranian poets, among other Iranian contributions to the world have been ignored because of negative positions Western countries have taken towards Iran making life difficult for the majority of Iranians.
International community celebrates Saadi Shirazi (who was born in 1210 in Shiraz and passed away in Shiraz in 1291.)
