" What is really amazing is that Lenin is so great and simple a man at the same time"

It was 1970 and we had our first physics class in the physics hall in my school in Kiev. On the wall, among the portraits of great physicists (Ben Franklin among them), there was a laminated copy of the excerpt from the handwritten letter in English. It said (per my memory):
- Dear Mr. Steinmetz,
It was a pleasure and an honor to receive your letter. Thank you for your most valuable suggestions. Your name and your achievements are well - known. If you have a chance to visit our country, you are most cordially welcome..
The letter was addressed to Charles Proteus Steinmetz, the American electrical genius, the father of the mathematics of electricity. It was signed:
With great respect,
Vladimir Ulyanov- Lenin, 1921
Lenin was then the Head of the Russian- Soviet government. He could have signed his letter that way. Instead he simply signed his name.
