A friend spotted this completely grey, nautical oddity in the Broad Bay area around Virginia Beach, VA, a couple of days ago. Neither of us are sailors, but we've both lived on the coast of Virginia for decades, and neither of us has ever seen anything quite like this. So it caught our attention.
Are there any sailors out there who have an idea?
Because the sudden appearance of this unique vessel is so odd, and the only thing we know of which is going on that is unusual, is that Donald Trump was scheduled to speak in Virginia Beach Friday night, we wondered if there is a connection.
According to the Virginia Pilot, Trump "is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. at the Wave Convention Center, 1000 N. Great Neck Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The center, which the Trump campaign has rented, can hold about 2,500 people." However, the event was later cancelled due to the weather resulting from Hurricane Joaquin.
Virginia Beach is the 39th
most populous city in the United States.
According to the wiki, the city is 497 sq mi (1,290 km2), comprised of 249 sq mi (640 km2) of land, and 248 sq mi (640 km2) of water. The place where the vessel was sighted is not far from the Wave Convention Center.
Could the appearance of the vessel be related to the planned speaking event? Could it have been used as a "get-away" boat? Or is it perhaps a military vessel that we haven't seen before? Or some tinkerer's invention?
Feel free to comment, sailors!
