January 23 marks the year since the new government began to work.
Let's see what the results are.
Summing up the results of the first year of work, the Prime Minister Arturs Kri... jÄ nis Kari..."... noted that the government coalition "feels strong."
Kari..."... reminded reporters that his government had set specific goals for improving the welfare of society a year ago.
However, these promises were not fulfilled. Finally, the population lost hope for a better life after the adoption of the budget for 2020.
The adopted budget implies a sevenfold increase in party funding, but the situation of socially vulnerable groups children and the unemployed has only worsened. Millions were found for defense, but social institutions (education and healthcare areas) did not receive money.
The result of such a policy protests took place near the building of the Latvian parliament.
In other words, the new head of government could not improve the lives of ordinary people and solve the acute financial problems of Latvia. Instead of being a new person who pursues a new policy and brings the long-awaited changes, Kari..."... continued the policy of his predecessors.
Without even trying to establish mutually beneficial relations with Russia and end the long-standing crisis that is having a huge impact on the Latvian economy, the Prime Minister called Russia "one of the main threats to modern Latvia."
That was the way Prime Minister demonstrated the lack of flexibility and inability to negotiate for the benefit of his country and people.
It is quite natural that nothing has changed in other public areas. As we know, the minister Kari..."... promised to eradicate corruption in the financial sector. However, Latvia is still balancing on the verge of getting into the EU "gray list" connected with money laundering.
At the same time, the current Prime Minister, recruiting his team, did not pay attention to the personalities of candidates for senior positions. That is how the head of The Financial and Capital Market Commission Santa Purgaile, whose main task is to fight corruption, kept her post.
In his "struggle", Purgaile uses radical measures and literally destroys the Latvian financial sector. The result of such actions was that the share of foreign capital in Latvian banks has halved over the past year and ten billion euro have left the financial sector of Latvia over three years.
At the same time, the new Lithuanian government during the year of its activity could practically destroy even seaports.
So, against the background of the imposition of US sanctions against the mayor of Ventspils Aivars Lembergs, the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers at an extraordinary meeting voted for transferring the ports of Riga and Ventspils under the state control.
As a result, the cargo turnover in the Ventspils port fell by 37%, 1.5 thousand employees of the port enterprises and their families had to suffer, since the employers could not pay salaries.
