Few readers of this site are supporters of Donald Trump. And yet, many of us are disaffected with the Democratic Party and opposed to the pro-war, pro-Wall St stands taken by leading Democrats.
We're all here because, in one way or another, we're unhappy with the MSM. We know the narrative that has been fed to us by the NYTimes and NPR and the Bezos Rag in Washington is departing ever further from the truth.
We at OEN are divided about the origins and significance of the COVID pandemic. Some of us think that shelter-in-place and use of masks is an appropriate response until a vaccine is available, while others think that the crisis is being exploited to impoverish us and shut down political and cultural organization. We rely on alternative media to provide a diversity of perspectives and to support the vigorous dialog that is essential for democracy.
So, almost all of our community is opposed to censorship, and some are alarmed that Youtube (for example) is "fact-checking" doctors and professors of epidemiology who disagree with the lockdown. It's clear to us that the selective "fact-checking" of Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube is another name for silencing debate.
But (here's where it gets interesting) the social media giants that are doing the censoring are uniformly Democratic and anti-Trump. So yesterday, The Donald came riding into town on a white horse and announced an executive order banning censorship on the internet.
How do we feel about this, coming from a man for whom we have so little respect?
