I wrote this loving tribute just minutes after Dale Earnhardt's death was announced. I tried to imagine the pain his son must have felt that horrible day.
"RACETRACK IN THE SKY"
He taught me everything I know in this world today; how to drive a race car; how to stop and pray; to give my very best and strive to achieve; to live my every dream if only I believe;
Oh, Daddy's looking down from that racetrack in the sky. I hope he knows it broke my heart the day we said good-bye. There's something that he should know. I'm proud to be his son and I'll carry on his legacy to finish number one.
In my eyes he was a hero and he'll always be; when I drove a race car or sat upon his knee; We shared a lot of triumphs through the many years. We traveled miles together and cried a lot of tears.
Well, now his streets are golden and there's angels all around. His life on earth is over yet his presence is profound. He fulfilled his every dream. You know, they all came true. The last word I have to say are, "Daddy, I love you".
Oh, Daddy's looking down from that racetrack in the sky. I hope he knows it broke my heart the day we said good-bye. There's something that he should know. I'm proud to be his son and I'll carry on his legacy to finish number one; to finish number one.
