When Israeli PM Netanyahu recently gave a speech at the United Nations, he quoted what he said is the Bible's Book of Samuel. The quote was, "The eternity of Israel will not falter."
After researching the quote, it looks like it is paraphrased from 1 Samuel 15:29, which states, "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent."
In response to Netanyahu using the Bible to justify waging war, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley attempted to use the Bible to show Netanyahu was wrong.
When we stop and think about this, that two leaders in the 21st century use an ancient religious text as a guide for living in the nuclear age of the 21st century, it cannot help but to cause serious concern. If we were to use the ancient texts of the Bible, we would still have slavery, provided it was Jews who own Gentiles as slaves (Leviticus 25:44-46), and slaves would be instructed to be obedient to their owners and to live "with fear and trembling" (Ephesians 6:5). We'd still be killing people who we believed were witches (Exodus 22:18) as well as killing children who curse their parents (Exodus 21:17 which Jesus endorsed and believed was "a commandment of God" at Matthew 15:3-6). The list of ungodly, repugnant and harmful nonsense that would be a part of daily life in a society based on the Bible is virtually unending.
We must pull ourselves out of the muck and mire of ancient religious beliefs which promote irrational thinking. Especially now that we are in the nuclear age and have the ability to destroy life on Earth through nuclear war, as well as through the destruction of Earth's life giving and life sustaining environment. As Albert Einstein wrote, "A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move to higher levels."
In order to break free of the mind-numbing nonsense of the Abrahamic man-made "revealed" religions, we must be openly honest about ALL of the content of those religions with as many people as possible. This will greatly help in bringing about a Deism revolution in religion as Thomas Paine called for in The Age of Reason when he wrote:
The more Deists get the word out about Deism, the more we help people to realize the "revealed" religions are not at all from The Supreme Intelligence/God but are mere fear-based "human inventions" which priests/clergy have created in order to better control people. This knowledge empowers people to make a clean break from the "revealed" religions and to learn how to truly appreciate and use their gift from The Supreme Intelligence/God of innate reason. Since problems can only be solved with reason, this will make for a much, much better world!"Soon after I had published the pamphlet "Common Sense," in America, I saw the exceeding probability that a revolution in the system of government would be followed by a revolution in the system of religion. The adulterous connection of church and state, wherever it had taken place, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, had so effectually prohibited by pains and penalties, every discussion upon established creeds, and upon first principles of religion, that until the system of government should be changed, those subjects could not be brought fairly and openly before the world; but that whenever this should be done, a revolution in the system of religion would follow. Human inventions and priestcraft would be detected; and man would return to the pure, unmixed and unadulterated belief of one God, and no more."
