Someone needs to get this message to the Senate Democrats and, especially, their apathetic leadership: "Suck it up, stop acting like a bunch of whipped dogs and, for once, go on the offensive against those Republican control freaks that are determined to take over the U.S. Senate."
Poll after poll indicates that the probability of the GOP regaining control of the U.S. Senate is as high as 60% to 70%, and that most certainly does not bode well for Democrats. So, in the face of this very dire news what might you think that the Democratic leadership in the Senate would be doing; mobilizing all its resources and organizing a huge effort to go all out and meet this challenge head on?
Absolutely not. Instead of rallying all the troops to launch a massive offensive to retain the Senate what do we hear from the Democrats? Well, it's a combination of silence and negative reactive actions. Just take a look at this article and especially note its title, "Fear of Voting Grips Democratic Chiefs." Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is taking steps to "protect endangered Democrats from casting tough votes" and it is apparent that Democrats are "hunkering down" to stay away from controversial legislation in the months preceding this election. That's what born losers do.
What kind of spineless behavior is that? You would think that Reid would, instead, be implementing various strategies and scenarios that clearly illustrate how Democrats are working to bring badly needed legislation up for a vote and how the Republicans are doing everything in their power, including their endless use of filibusters, to obstruct every such attempt. They need to shine the spotlight on Republicans and expose them for what they are; obstructionists of the highest order.
The people of America are looking for strong, courageous leadership, not a bunch of wimps who, instead of fighting for what is right for this country, back down and refuse to do battle with their antagonists. There are many things that the Republicans stand for that are totally against the wishes of the American people; but the one reason why so many millions of Americans still support them is that they sort of admire their strength and resolve versus a perceived weakness and lack of aggressiveness on the part of Democrats.
Here's what needs to be done, that is, if the Democrats can somehow summon up the political courage: show the American people that the Republicans are against virtually every issue the majority of Americans support: reach out to the rapidly increasing Hispanic population and show its people how the GOP is totally against immigration reform; show unemployed workers how these Republicans, the chief facilitators of the Corporatists' agenda, are against increasing the minimum wage, against extending unemployment benefits, and against job creation; show how they are against the food stamp program, and against dealing with climate change.
Then spread the word across this land that they are for destroying Social Security and Medicare, for killing the Affordable Health Care Act, and for maintaining and increasing levels of inequality of income in America. Show how they are, in many states, doing everything they can to suppress voting to keep people away from the polls.
