Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari announced his campaign during the deepening economic crisis in the USA and an outbreak of violence between North and South Korea, following a US/S. Korea drill threatening the over fifty year cease fire established during Harry S. Truman's presidency.
Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari recognized that when Governor Mel Carnahan tragically died in 2000 during his US Senate race, his widow Jean Carnahan bravely served in his place. Later when the terrors of 9/11 occurred Senator Carnahan made the decisions Mr. Lipari stated he believed at the time were needed like most Missourians.
When the nation was being led to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, some Missourians organized the KC Iraq Task Force to demonstrate against war. Its early members included social justice minded Catholics, former missionaries, Mennonites, US Military veterans and others who morally opposed war and some who had seen first hand the effects of wars on innocent peaceful citizens around the world. The KC Iraq Task Force regularly demonstrated outside of Senator Carnahan's office, the Plaza and during the noon hour on Wednesdays across from the US Courthouse.
Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari recognizes the wisdom of Missourians in the KC Iraq Task Force and others who cautioned our nation against war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now that reason and caution is needed as we interpret what is happening today on the Korean Peninsula. Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari announced his candidacy because the budget crisis created by the out of control current spending in what are now our nation's longest wars threaten the economic existence of our nation. The billions of dollars being spent with little or no accountability because of the wars have been diverted from the social safety net and infrastructure our government needs to care for people in America and from foreign aid to peaceful peoples around the world.
Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari recognizes the economic depression, loss of American jobs, and even rising foreclosures of home mortgages are tied to the confidence our nation has lost with our former allies, trading partners and investors. Â European and Asian pensioners and their governments are not seeing the United States act rationally or responsibly in the Middle East. Now they are seeing more seats held by the Republican party with an agenda of increasing our nation's military involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq and even Pakistan or Iran. Their life savings and employer pensions once solidly invested in America and a strong US Dollar have been substituted with trillions of dollars in fraudulent derivatives that the United States was not even regulating or policing under existing applicable securities and banking laws.
Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari was inspired to take the unusual step of challenging his party's incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill for the Democratic Party's 2012 nomination because of how Mr. Lipari has observed the national policy interest in responding effectively to the terrors of 9/11 was misdirected into the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq through lies by government officials and corporate war profiteering, injuring our nation just as the need for real healthcare reform that would have made our businesses competitive and increased jobs was instead misdirected into a 70 Billion dollar subsidy for health insurance corporations at the expense of Medicaid and Medicare recipients. Mr. Lipari notes that even the airline industry pioneered in Kansas City and the source of above living wage manufacturing jobs for many Missourians is being destroyed by naked terrorism profiteering that has nothing to do with air travel safety and everything to do with enriching Homeland Security officials in the previous administration. Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari is beginning his campaign today because it is important to not let our nation be manipulated into misadventures, wars and other schemes to deprive us of our liberty, lives and treasury.
Senate Candidate Samuel Lipari believes our nation is in crisis and our future strength, independence and ability to provide for our people requires our return to former Missouri Senator Harry S. Truman's willingness to investigate and prosecute war profiteering and to hold public servants accountable, stating: "Our grandparents made sure our government embodied the values we had as a people. The nations of the world were inspired to follow us, not through war but our reluctance to use our military strength and our willingness to improve people's lives with technology, free markets and fair transparent enforcement of laws that made war obsolete." As senator, Samuel Lipari stated he will work to end the monopolies and war profiteering as an independent Democrat from the Show Me state.
