Recently Christian groups demanding Christian monuments on public grounds learned a painful lesson when Satanist groups demanded equal time with their own monument praising their deity, Satan.
It was inevitable, and it happened. Now it's time for another lesson in equal rights and equal treatment under law.
Here's a link to a Slate article showing a map of states that use public funds to teach so-called creation-science in public and charter school science classes.
Of course creationism has absolutely nothing to do with science and everything to do with religion. Only the most ignorant amongst us can argue the contrary with either a straight face or peer-reviewed evidence. Period.
Nevertheless fundamental Christians, who are frankly little more than the flip side of the same coin whose other side is occupied by fundamentalist Muslims -- continue to demand this utter nonsense be injected into the minds of our young. It should be a crime, child abuse of the psychological variety.
But that's not going to happen because Americans are way to polite when it comes to slapping down morons cloaked within religious vapors.
Which is why it's time to teach them how the US Constitution always trumps religious mumbo jumbo.
So, lets demand that, in any school teaching creationism with public funds, also be required to teach astrology , witchcraft and the "science" behind the Quiga Board .
Oh how they'll howl that both are the work of the devil, lies and ... hurmph, humph, " Unscientific."
These people are ignoramuses, and apparently want their children to follow in their backwardness. Which I would be delighted to allow if it weren't for the fact that they grow up and then we have to battle another generation of idiots terrified by modernity and anything that threatens their chosen metaphiscal notions.
Since politicians are more interested in gaining their votes than governing in step with human knowledge, it ' s left to the rest of us to deal with what demographers all-to-kindly refer to as "low information voters."
Apparently the only way to do that is to force them to live with their own wishes... as in "be careful what you wish for" ... and force such issues as noted above.
Because, while the US Constitution is full of flowery language and structured legalities, in the end it boils do to a very simple message:
"What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."
