After careful consideration I have decided to try and post this opinion of mine in here. I would like to specify that I am a scientist, aerospace, that I worked for very advanced programs and I know what is scientific and what is not. This opinion of mine is based on a very long experience. I also would like to state that I think, face covers and social distancing are necessary, that yes, that saves lives, but the problem still cannot be solved only by a passive reaction. Thus here is what I published several times as a comment on Facebook:
"We brought all that on ourselves. When this whole thing started, it was paramount to request an immediate wartime effort to designate a centralized task force and task it with only one thing-to develop a treatment protocol. It should have been a truly wartime effort with all other projects suspended, unlimited resources allocated, responsibilities assigned and very tough reporting and accountability specified. The whole project should have been under the UN, the team was to be international and treatment when developed -free for anyone sick. I mean treatment, not vaccine. It should have been exercised as an unprecedented effort of mankind with the deadline in the end of summer. I am a scientist myself, I know how such projects are done and it could be done if we, the people demanded that. Let's not even talk about lack of knowledge; it was in abundance, it was to be requested from all those "labs" which played with deadly viruses for a long time. But we squandered the opportunity and the leadership overwhelmingly failed, chickened or f$cked up. Now we have what we have, Trump says to us, " it is like it is" and we have 168000 people dead and nobody held accountable. We better face the reality, which has no mask. It is our complacency which lead to this."
The above constitutes my view at the situation we are having now in the world. I also consider that people are to start actively demanding the following approach at least in the US, mainly because we here in the US have a very rare opportunity of actually being considered as a driving force:
- The treatment (drug treatment, not vaccine) is to be developed with the usage of all scientific potential and in the shortest possible time- very much controlled and countrywide. First priority.
2.Speedy tests are to be developed also- both for the virus and for antibodies. First priority.
- When a person gets sick, the same day he/she reports it- the EMT comes home, performs the virus test at home, gets results in 15min and if positive- the whole treatment package is to be started right away; the person consults the doctor by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Only if a person experiences worsening- he/she is to be admitted to a hospital. Family of a person should be voluntarily staying at home if so choosing or be given an option to separate. If a person is homeless, or other issues- there should be a complex of measures available heavy on preserving the absolute civil rights following and ' do no harm' paramount. ALL SERVICES- from the day of positive test to the final antibody test, everything, including possible ICU - are to be FREE of charge for everyone. All doctors and medical personnel involved, as well as volunteers are to be given significant money as rewards as well as other benefits. It has to become a Federal Program, similar to Medicare , but only COVID- specific and accessible to everyone. FREE OF CHARGE.
- Vaccines are to be a secondary priority- although yes, if such vaccine is developed whenever in the world- there should be an international cooperation and again- free of charge.
- The national COVID19 issue is to be treated as a matter of National security but under a very strict accountability to the people. It must be a truly national effort, not some govt. debatable policy issue. This is really a chance for the true democracy to work for the people.
I am posting this in good faith and with the perception that all of us are here to help. My view is that the people should help themselves because in this country the mechanism to do that exists. How to do that- is to be obviously discussed if in principle it is considered doable. I think yes, very much so.
I understand that the Devil is in details and that ' different folks have different views'. But whatever people consider, I would advise not to doubt my care and good will. I would assume, all of us want to see the clear path to the end of this and none of us wants to wear a mask forever. People can be very ingenious when the path is clear and the cause is worth it.
