Thanks to Joan Rivers, I knew that Elizabeth Taylor had gained a lot of weight before I really knew who Elizabeth Taylor was.
Many of us felt like that, but if you If you google Joan Rivers-Christian Right
jokes, you won't come up with anything. But to the Christian Right, Joan Rivers
was a constant joke - or more a slap in the face to its oh-so-conventional
"wisdom."
She was also a thorn in its side when it came to the "gay plague." As
was Elizabeth Taylor. But sources
say that Joan was the first
thorn.
Following Taylor's passing last week, Rivers tweeted, "Sad to hear of Elizabeth Taylor's death. She was the 1st major celebrity to join me in the fight against AIDS when it wasn't a popular cause."

By a smidgen. Here's the proof:
Both Joan Rivers and Elizabeth Taylor raised
funds for the same organization - The AIDS Project of Los Angeles - but Joan's
fundraiser was several months earlier than Elizabeth's.
