Politicians and members of the media have nearly universally expressed shock and dismay at Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but their incredulity is belied by the fact that numerous Russia experts and historians have been predicting these events practically since the fall of the Berlin Wall, pointing out that a Russian response to ongoing NATO incursions was virtually inevitable.
Just a reminder that the Ukraine-Russia war was entirely predictable, and was actually predicted by many experts for decades. There were many opportunities to prevent this war and its danger to the world. Most people will not hear, or listen, to any of this now, but the voices were loud and clear since George Bush Senior advanced NATO's line towards Russia, despite promises not to do so. Bill Clinton made it worse. So did Obama, while Trump was neutral but too inept to create a compromise policy that could have prevented Cold War II. The whole world will suffer as a result, but especially Ukraine and eastern Europe.
