100,000 Uncounted Votes In California and Department of Justice Corruption In Alabama TAKE ACTION NOW! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sign The Petition Demanding That California Election Officials Count 100,000 Non-Partisan Votes Uncounted Because Of A Bad Ballot!
On Super Tuesday in Los Angeles, the ballot provided to non-partisan voters required that two bubbles be filled out rather than one required for partisan voters. The ballot and the officials in the polling places caused such confusion that nearly 100,000 non-partisan votes have been uncounted because both bubbles were not filled out. The elections officials are now saying that they cannot count the votes because they cannot with certainty determine the voters’ intent. This is wrong since most of the voters voted for a particular presidential candidate. Attorneys from the Courage Campaign, a VR affiliate, sent a three-page letter to the LA County Board of Supervisors calling for all ballots to be counted, in response to Logan's report claiming it would be "impossible."
That letter is here [PDF], and includes this notable graf: In response to the Florida electoral fiasco in 2000, California voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 43 on March 5, 2002 which amended Article II of the California Constitution as follows: A voter who casts a vote in an election in accordance with the laws of this State shall have that vote counted. Further, state law clearly states that when reviewing votes and voting systems, Election Code requirements "shall be liberally construed so that the real will of the electors will not be defeated by any informality or failure to comply with all of the provisions of the law." (See Cal. Elec. Code Sec. 19001.)
The group has created an online petition calling on the LA Super visor of Elections to count every vote. Nearly 40,000 people have signed the petition and VR urges all of our members to do so and pass this petition to others. Every vote should be counted. If you have seen the broadcast: Then you now know that the key witness against Don Siegelman lied and that the prosecution was aware of it. There is more to the Nick Bailey story too. His brother was threatened with jail time by the US attorney's office (because he is allegedly as corrupt as Nick) if Nick did not testify against Siegelman. Based on the Bailey issue alone, Don Siegelman's conviction should be overturned. Moreover, US Attorney Leura Canary must be fired immediately and fully investigated. To accomplish this, please demand that Congress respond to this corruption of the Justice Department.
