In what is described as an "Unprecedented Gathering of Renowned Soldier Modernization Program Managers and Researchers at Soldier Modernization Middle East 2009," arms dealers are preparing their weapons of death and destruction for sale to almost anyone with the funds to acquire their goods.

As modern battlefields continue to become more and more diverse, multifaceted and lethal, and modern armies have to face non-traditional combatant forces, nations are trying to build up "soldier modernization programs" that seek to equip the dismounted soldier with every conceivable piece of electro-optical situational-awareness enhancing kit.

Soldier Modernization Middle East 2009 discusses the proven strategies, the core issues and cutting-edge technology from global programs for advancing the soldier systems to overcome new and diverse challenges of a transforming battlefield through enhanced capabilities.

The 2nd Soldier Modernization Middle East will be held from October 18th to 21st, 2009 at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi. Here, leading "program managers" and key experts from renowned science and technology organizations will gather to update the Middle East's key defense stakeholders on the latest findings from their trials and validations, as well as innovative strategies to advance the combat capabilities of the modern soldier.

Noteworthy presentations include developing a squad system approach for quicker response and enhanced operational efficiency from the French Army's FELIN project team; integrating human factors into capability requirements from the program manager for Romanian Individual Fighting System (RIFS); and the application of science and technology in improving the lethality capability for Project Land 125 from the Weapons Systems Division of Australia's Defense Science Technology Organization.

Other project updates will be given by Major Tapio Saarelainen, Program Manager for the Finnish Defense Forces; Lieutenant Colonel Arman Rumaizi, Project Leader for the Malaysian Army and a senior representative from the Jordan Armed Forces. The conference will also address technical innovations including utilizing fuel cells for a long-lasting and lightweight power run system and various composite materials to develop a resilient transparent armor.

Grace Chng, Director of Soldier Modernization Middle East 2009 says, "With the continuous upgrading and increased spend in combat equipment and technology across the Middle East, Soldier Modernization will provide the regional stakeholders with critical insights on how they can advance their existing capabilities using proven strategies in the lethality, survivability, mobility, sustainability and C4I areas."

The agenda will discuss the lessons learned and highlight the advanced systems and components in the main five segments crucial to revolutionizing the operational effectiveness of the future soldier: C4I, lethality, mobility, survivability, and sustainability.

In an effort to meet the needs of those seeking the means to kill at a distance, in addition to the Soldier Modernization Middle East 2009, there will concurrently be the Future Artillery Middle East conference.

The producers of the Future Artillery Middle East conference state that as "[d]emonstrated by the active land systems procurements currently going ahead in the Gulf region, the modernization of artillery and fire support systems is necessary in order to successfully combat modern military threats, and so remains the most effective method of protecting territorial security. IQPC are proud to introduce the Middle East's first and only summit on Future Artillery, which is shaping up to be an unmissable and exclusive forum concentrating on the key developments, challenges and solutions within the fire support and artillery community."
