General Harpagus is Visited by the Spirit of Airyanem Vaejah Nation, who Pretends to be a Merchant from Bakhtaran in Media Empire

Long after my visit with King Cambyses first and Queen Mandane of Anshan, I, the spirit of Airyanem Vaejah, decided to pay General Harpagus a visit before leaving. I shook the soul of my controlled Deaw. He appeared to me and said, "Oh Master, I am your servant. Ask anything of me." I told it to fly me to Lycia [36].

I, the spirit of Airyanem Vaejah Nation, pretended when I arrived to be a merchant from Media looking for goods to buy and take back to Bakhtaran [37]. The news quickly reached General Harpagus. He sent one of his servants to ask me to see him. I went to his castle where he held court as the ruler of Lycia after he was appointed as Satrap or Shah [38] of Lycia by Cyrus the Great.

He was pleased to see someone from his home. He was suffering at the end of his life for what he did to maintain unity among the Madayu, Parsu, Elam, Scythians, Parthian and other people of the Airyanem Vaejah Nations. Now everything he worked for has been destroyed by Darius the Great. Darius was possessed by Ahriman and killed the children of Cyrus the Great, the Median leaders and most of the Magi, the wise scientists and astrologers and the backbone of the Zoroastrian religion.

After greeting me, he asked me to sit beside him and he asked how his people were faring back home. I told him that life continued but the people were not happy. The seeds of betrayal and lies were replacing the principle of good thought, good word and good deed. Those honorable principles are being violated regularly by Darius the Great. In time, our nation will pay for his unjust practices in the land of Airyanem Vaejah.

He listened to every word I was saying feeling great sorrow for what has happened. He said he warned Cyrus the Great for his mistake when he destroyed the Parsu kingdom and forced the grandfather of Darius the Great to move to Anshan. His family paid for his mistakes--the only mistake he ever made in his life. I expected some day that Darius the Great would take revenge and that is what happened.

I looked at him and said, "General, the younger generations are not aware of your service. Many people blame you for what happened to the Madayu, Elam, Scythians, Parthian and other people of Airyanem Vaejah Nation, because of the Darius the Great and his favoritism for the Parsu people.

General Harpagus said, "Darius the Great is the person in history who should be known as the one who planted the seed of division among the Madayu and Parsu peoples. His actions will hurt the unity among the Airyanem Vaejah peoples for millennium to come."

I, the spirit of Airyanem Vaejah, asked him if he could tell me the stories of the past and his efforts to unify Airyanem Vaejah people, so that I could tell the younger generations when I go back home. He smiled and said, "If you stay, I will be glad to tell you what I know." I accepted his proposal and what follows is what he told me.

The story of Emperor Diyako or Dayukku of the Median Empire

Greatness among societies is not easily achieved. Humans first entering the world come as equals, but the teaching of moral values and serving others with honor will lead to the greatness of a being. The honorable Dayukku was one of those individuals who achieved the trust of the people for his honesty and truth, a worthy among the Airyanem Vaejah people. He was the soul with the vision to liberate the people from war and unite them in order to defend themselves and their land in order to live peacefully. He was blessed by the people around him. He had many advisers, one of whom came from the Mount Damavand region with superior knowledge of the past and a vision for the future. The majority of the people thought he was the spirit of the Airyanem Vaejah Nation; he disappeared mysteriously in the same manner he appeared among them during initial phase of Emperor Diyako's preparations for the future Median Empire and Airyanem Vaejah Nation.

Diyako (Deioces, Dà ©jocà ¨s, Deiokes, 727 656 BC) was a Mede prince and son of Kyaxares, the leader of the Madayu people and the descendant of Matiene, the hero of the Airyanem Vaejah Nations. His forefather ruled the Matiene kingdom before they were defeated by the Assyrian Empire. He was able to unite the six Median tribes into one dynamic entity within the Airyanem Vaejah Nation. He first worked as a judge, from 701 to 694 BC, for the six tribes; he was a devout Zoroastrian brought up with the principles of truth and justice. He implemented those principles within the rule of law. He became famous for his justice among the Madayu, Parsu and other tribes of the Airyanem Vaejah Nation. He resigned to protest the disunity among his people fighting the Assyrian aggression. His resignation led to the famous meeting of the Airyanem Vaejah leaders at a place, later called Hangmatana or Ecbatana (the place of gathering). In that meeting the leaders elected Diyako to be Shahan-Shah (King of Kings) of the Airyanem Vaejah people; he reigned from 694 to 665 BC and then resigned because of his age, allowing his son, prince Fravartis (Fravartish), to replace him. They named the empire after the Madayu tribe, calling it the "Median Empire."

Emperor Diyako built up the army first; hiring the best instructors from among his people. They built excellent weapons and he also organized the logistics for his military.
