Obama, the DSCC, the DNC, the heavy hitters in the senate and a lot of unions backed Specter. The mostly right-winger owned local daily papers backed Specter. But the people of Pennsylvania gave them all the finger and sent a guy with the guts to stand up to all of to fight the big one against right wing extremist Pat Toomey in November. The fact that Sestak stood up to all them should do him well in the fall. It'll be interesting to see whether he has Obama or the other Specter backers come support him as he now pursues the senate seat Specter now occupies. He'll be owing a lot less people than the average senate candidate.
In Kentucky, Rand Paul beat the candidate endorsed and chosen by GOP leaders like Mitch McConnel and Dick Cheney and he did it with a 20 point advantage. Another big f*ck you to Washington insiders.
Even in Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln, the candidate Obama is backing was denied a win and will have to face a run-off election against her more liberal opponent, Bill Halter.
One conclusion everyone is etching in even deeper is that incumbents are in trouble. Perhaps they should also conclude that incumbents may hurt more than help new candidates.
It's going to be a VERY f*cking interesting election season.
Okay, okay. I promise I've gotten my cussing out of my system for a while.
