This last week has been amazing; with the Ney conviction, the ethics report Abramoff release, and now, the latest top news: about Mark Foley.
I think my opponent, Roy Blunt, has a lot to worry about during the upcoming month of October. Just consider these facts:
Roy Blunt worked directly under Tom Delay as Majority Whip.
Mark Foley worked directly under Roy Blunt as Deputy Whip for the Republican leadership committee.
In this morning's Springfield News Leader, Roy Blunt denies knowing anything about Foley's emails, and is refusing to resign from Congress:

According to the ongoing news stories, the Speaker is denying he or top Republicans knew anything about these sexually explicit emails Foley sent to this teenage boy. However, the Speaker's aide admits last fall, upon receiving the news, he informed the Speaker, and nothing was done. At this time, my opponent, Roy Blunt, was acting as both Majority Head and Whip while Delay was being indicted; so he was the top Republican in Congress under the Speaker.
And he knew nothing?
When something potentially criminal has happened in our government, especially involving our children, isn't it our government's responsibility, and the top members of our government's responsibility, to ensure action is taken to bring justice and protect our children?
The first time the Speaker made an announcement regarding Foley and the emails, he waited until yesterday to make a joint public statement with the top 2 Republicans in Congress, which includes my opponent, Roy Blunt. I think it's really something that all of them are denying any knowledge when this was made available to them last fall, and are saying that no top Republicans knew anything, but the top 3 Republicans wait to make an announced statement until they can make the statement together.
Something is wrong in Washington.
The top Republicans in Congress, the leadership committee, knew about this for a year; and they did nothing. The Speaker's aide admits they knew about it for a year. The Citizens for Responsible Ethics reported this to the FBI a year ago. Nothing happened.
Aren't we supposed to protect our children?
All the news media is pointing to the House's Republican Leadership Committee knowing of these emails for a year. Last night, the Washington Post demanded that the Speaker of the House resign. That leadership committee is made up of 3 people; the Speaker, the Majority Head, and my opponent, Roy Blunt. And Mark Foley was a member of this Republican leadership committee, working under Roy Blunt as his deputy whip. I think the facts speak for themselves. I just hope the people get to know everything they need to know in time to make an educated decision next month on Election day.
I am glad to see the media is doing their job, and trying to make the public aware of what is going on.
