On the basis of this crime alone, Bush and his inner circle should be impeached by the House of Representatives and tried in the Senate. Bush and the rest of his gang who were aware of the lies used to get the US into this war must be impeached, unless you don't consider what they did treason. Greens do.
Even if you can see your way through to call Bush and Company's lies leading up to war in Iraq acceptable, how can you excuse the President's lying about the leak of Valerie Plame's status as a CIA agent? First he apparently allowed Cheney to leak Plame's name, and then lied to all of us, doing his song-and-dance of "I will fire anyone who was involved" to "I will fire anyone who broke the law" to "I forget...what were we talking about again?"
Is Bush's impeachment assured? We Greens don't believe the question is one of likely success, but of what the Constitution demands. When the President and his cohorts break the most fundamental laws of our nation, the very Constitution itself, questions of success or failure are irrelevant. Either we stand for and by the Constitution or we give up on the idea that the people count for anything at all. Bush's unconstitutional wiretapping is but one demonstration of the disdain he has for our basic system.
In calling for Bush's impeachment, the Green Party also called on the American people to protest the media's unwillingness to ask the hard questions and the quite agreement of both Democrats and Republicans to let George Bush get away with the crimes he has committed and has authorized others to commit.
In words that ring like a true patriot's bell to me, the national party said in a press release in 2005 that Bush administration policies have brought disgrace to the United States. Now, with more than 2400 dead and many more wounded, we remember Bush's arrogant swagger and from-the-hip diplomatic style that brought us "Mission Accomplished" and "Bring it on" to the terrorists in Iraq, who promptly brought it on.
Working in concert with other Greens in the area, York County Greens will help create and sponsor a regional "Rally for Impeachment" on September 30th. With a speaker from Gold Star Families for Peace assured and Freedom Park in Charlotte as the location, there is every reason to believe that we will have a successful event. Recent efforts to promote the rally have been very successful, and the North Carolina Green Party has put some muscle behind the rally.
With an agenda like this, Greens obviously need more shoulders at the wheel. If you think that the nation would be better off with new leaders, drop by the website and let us know.
If you want the United States to stand against torture instead of dancing around the issue, visit us and think about joining. If you believe that deceivers should not lead the country, even if they are "The Decider," we sure would love to hear from you.
