In March of this year I announced my candidacy for President of the United States. I think I made it clear in a number of commentaries that I don’t believe any Democrats or Republicans currently running for that office, or any national office for that matter, are qualified to serve. I’ve written extensively about this and if you want to know my reasons for saying that, they are in the public record.
Further, I suggested that folks who want to transform our failed government into a government of, by, and for the People should be spending their energies on finding new qualified candidates to support for public office so that it will be possible to replace the current betrayers. We need to replace elected officials throughout the entire spectrum of elective offices.
Since I am not aware of any real effort now being exerted along those lines, I’m offering this experiment to see if we can get something started. I would like to see if there is anyone out there who would be willing to run for office under the platform I wrote for myself in my bid for the Presidency.
If you are such a person, please write to me and indicate for what office you would be willing to serve. When writing please indicate your full name, email address, the specific office in which you would like to serve, and any other comment you would like to make. If I get a reasonable number of volunteers, I will create a web site and put your information on it. It would be great if we could fill every slot up for grabs in the next election. We have 537 elected officials to replace at the national level.
This is not an attempt to start a new political party but an attempt to find dedicated citizens who are both aligned with my political views and also willing and qualified to serve, assuming our political system were actually designed to encourage new entrants into the political arena. Surely anyone should have the oppotunity to run for office, but I am particularly interested in supporting those who seek the same kind of America I do.
Note that one of the main reasons that the Democratic and Republican parties are not qualified to serve any longer is that they are no longer democratic institutions. They don’t believe in the democratic process. There is a great deal of evidence that this is true, but the most obvious one is the fact that they do not welcome independent or third party candidates into the process and will not support changes to a better system, such as Instant Runoff Voting or Range Voting, that would allow such candidates to compete. Democrats or Republicans know that the system could easily be changed to eliminate the “spoiler” effect. I say, if you don’t believe in democracy, you shouldn’t be running the country.
I will post the results of this experiment on the following web site in a few days: www.gpln.com/candidates.htm
