Saturday, April 27, 2024"Civil War:" the Movie This column presents what is an extensive review of the movie "Civil War," which is in current release (or, as I say in the column, was when I wrote it). What did I think of it? Well, not much. To coin a phrase, it's much ado about nothing. Civil Wars are about politics. This movie has none. In sum it is nothing more than "an old-fashioned Western shoot-em-up, with the active shooters all regaled in various forms of camo."

Well, No." This one, also commenting on the phrase, "It's Just Like 1939," being used by a number of commentators who are dealing with the threat to U.S. Constitutional Democracy posed by the Trump/Heritage-Foundation/Project-2025, central to current Repub. doctrine. Thursday, March 21, 2024It Ain't Just Trump Trump is clearly a fascist threat. And, especially if Republican fair-election-cheating flourishes, he could become President once again. But Trump would not make it there on his own, no matter how historically out-sized his personality is. (And he does rank right up there with authoritarian figures he has expressed admiration for, like Hitler.) Trump still has much support in the Republican section of the ruling class.

Friday, March 15, 2024Israeli Nationalism: Creating the New International Anti-Semitism, and (briefly) Conflating Anti-Zionism with Anti-Semit The existence of Anti-Semitism, goes back to before the Common Era. It was first organized, under the "Jews Killed Christ" mythology, by St. Augustine in the 5th century. A contemporary anti-Semitic trope/myth is "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion." But now a real basis for the organization of anti-Semitism has made its appearance: Israeli Nationalist One-State-Solution/Expulsionism. This column introduces this concept.

First I review the Seven and how he has used them in the past. Then I discuss how he might be able (or not) to use them this time around.
