Trump's '7 Magic Tricks' as Illustrated by his '11-page Letter' I have previously described Trump's Six (now seven) "Magic Tricks." This column illustrates in detail how he uses them in the "11-Page Letter" that he recently sent to the House "Jan. 6" Committee.

On What Really Happened to Create the "Cuban Missile Crisis' There has been a recent threat from Russia (or maybe not so much, to use "tactile" nuclear weapons in their War on Ukraine. One response to the threat, of whatever sincerity and severity, has been to President Kennedy and the "Cuban Missile Crisis." This column tells the real story of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which centered on Khrushchev's ability to to thwart Kennedy's planned invasion of the island. JFK a hero? Nah!!

A Secular Humanist Jew's Thoughts on Yom Kippur: On Atheism and Theism, and on Religion and Political Religion Please note I have published much the same column twice before on these pages. Why again, now? Because I think that it is important to reiterate the following thoughts. I am a Secular Humanist Jew. I have no problem with persons of any religion who believe in God or Gods (e.g., the 1 billion or so Hindus). What I have a problem with is political relgion which attempts to force its religious beliefs on me through the law.

The 'Stab in the Back;' Trump's Getting Desperate; QAnon: The New S.A. This column reviews the various "Magic Tricks" that Trump uses, that I have described and discussed in previous columns, that Trump has used for a lifetime to get out of one scam-to-scrape after nanometer. This time would appear to be different, what with "Mar-a-Lago," the NYS Attorney General's Office, and etc. Trump has used violence at a constrained pace in the fast. Is he getting ready to enhance it. QAnon, anyone?

Some Further Thoughts on the English Constitution, the Duke of Windsor, and the British Empire This is a follow-up column on last week's on the passing of Great Britain's Queen Eliz. II. It concerns a further consideration of the English Constitution and how various monarchs have violated it from time-to-time, a brief, highly focused critique of the British Empire from an OpEdNews column published by one friend, and some comments of life in England and English cars from another. It's back to current events next week.

On the Passing of Queen Elizabeth, II: Some lighter thoughts (for the most part) For the most part, this column does not deal with the many serious and negative elements of the the British Empire which this monarch represented. Rather, until its ending, the column is about some personal recollections of London and some interesting (to me at any rate) bits on UK history. At the end it treats of the very serious story about how this young lady actually came to be Queen: a not pretty historical accident.

A Revisit with "The Origin of the Self-Destructive Species (with apologies to Charles Darwin)" This column re-visits a column I published back in 2014 concerning two apparently unique characteristics of the species Homo Sapiens: it members are dependent for their existence on the conversion of elements found in the environment into various goods and services, and in my view, because of that necessity, which led to private ownership of the conversion processes, led then to ours becoming the only self-destructive species.

On NY Mets Old-Timers Day; First, Some Personal Baseball Fan History This column is about baseball and me, and the New York Giants and the New York Mets, about the greatest Giant of all time, Willie Mays, and the Mets' Old Timers Day celebration watched with my son, Jacob, with whom I had seen so many Mets' games over the years, live and on television. To this very day, we watch Mets games "together" over-the-phone (he lives in another state), when they are broadcast on national television.

History's Greatest Con Man tries his Biggest Con, Ever, and Adds a 7th "'Magic Trick" This column A) builds on my assertion that Trump is History's Greatest con man, and B) attempts to prove that the "Stolen Election" shtick is Trump's great trick. He knows he lost but knows what he must do to A) remain in the public eye, B) retain political control of the Republican Party, and C) raise money, lots of it. The column also adds a "7th Trick, the "Oh woe is me; everyone's against me" one. What a combo. What a con.

The CDC and COVID-19: Trumpian Politics and Policies Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the CDC has issued a statement of the performance of the CDC. both in re the COVID-19 pandemic and the functioning of the agency in general. Neither the words "Trump" nor "previous Administration" appear in her statement. This column begins to address that omission by republishing my very first column on "Trump and COVID." It's no surprise, I'm sure, to learn that there will be more to come.

Hungry for Hungary: Where does the Flavor Come From? The Republo-fascist Party and its CPAC mouthpiece, and the Hungarian dictator Viktor Orban, have a very close affinity for one another. The thesis presented in this column is that this affinity is not an accidental occurrence. Rather its origins stem about 100 years back, to the origins of the world's first fascist dictatorship, under Admiral Miklos Horthy, from which in my view, the Orban regime is directly descended.

"Top Gun: Maverick:" How to Violate International Law and Get Away with It, Each and Every Time" This column is about just what its title says it's about: "'Top Gun: Maverick:' How to Violate International Law and Get Away with It, Each and Every Time." With a totally incomplete list of just how the United States has done so since World War II, in some cases on a much larger scale (like going to war on Viet Nam), this column shows how the story of this particular movie fits right into the real-world pattern of US policy.

Do Trump's '6 Magic Tricks' Still Work? Well, No." This summary is easy to write. I have previously written on "The Six Magic Tricks" on which Trump has relied to get him through life, through all of his failed deals with no long-term injuries, all the way to the Presidency. But in the current crisis for him (and for him it is a crisis) I do not think that the Tricks will work and that he will go down. This column explains why I have come to that conclusion.

Teaching 'Both Sides' --- in Ohio Republicans in the Ohio State Legislature are proposing to mandate a "two sides" approach to the teaching of history in the public high schools. There has been a good deal of negative response to this proposal. Here I suggest that it might not be such a bad idea after all, depending of course upon what subjects are chosen for consideration, beginning with the "two sides" of legislative interference in public school curriculae.

Christian Nationalism and the Republican Party: Something New? Nah! This column begins with a quotation from a column by the New York Times' Elizabeth Dias concerning the rise of "Christian Nationalism" in the Republican Party and the coordinated decline of the recognition of the Constitutional centrality of the doctrine of the separation of Church and State in the thinking of some contemporary Republicans. This column is another one in my series of "Something new for Republicans? Nah!"

Further Thoughts on Winning the Abortion Wars: 'I Told You So' The fight to guarantee the rights of women in the mater of abortion is not over. It is quite obvious that the next stage has just begun. As readers of my columns know, I feel that a major opportunity has been missed: to fight on what is really the central issue here: the struggle against religious authoritarianism. This column consists mainly of a reprint of a 2016 column on that subject that published on the Greanville Post.

Reversing the Attack on Women's Bodily Autonomy Roe v. Wade has succumbed to the Religious Authoritarians, mainly of the Republican Religious (Christian) Right. This column is about the majority opinion, written by Justice Alito, in the case that gave Roe in. It is also about other strategies to protect the right to choose (for women who would like to have it) that might have been used (like employing the doctrine of religious authoritarianism) and how they might be used.

Prosecute Trump? Not Yet This column concerns the controversy over whether on not to try Trump, not because he might be innocent and so trying him would be unfair, but because of the violence and long-term political retribution that might follow. This column offers some thoughts on a way to navigate this potential disaster for the nation, and still bring Trump to justice.

" 'Bull Durham,' and 'Bull Barr' " Bill Barr has been tied up with Trump and his various cover-uos for quite some time. As it turns out, Barr was well-suited to this job for he previously did the same thing on behalf of G.H.W. Bush and "Iran-Contra." This column begins briefly exploring one the great baseball movies, "Bull Durham," reviews briefly Barr and "Iran-Contra," and then goes on to look at Barr, Durham, Trump, and a whole lot of Bull.
