The Kurdish part has been functioning somewhat autonomously for quite some time. That leaves the Shia and Sunni partitions. The Shia partition would almost certainly become a proxy state of Iran, handing an easy victory to the Iranian Ayatollahs who were at war with Saddam for years.
That leaves the Sunnis. This new Hilf Al-Mutayibeen alliance claims to be advocating for the protection and empowerment of the Sunnis, who have been complaining they've been left out of the power equation of the new Iraqi government. Al Qaeda seems to be supplying a solution.

Bottom line, Bush's invasion of Iraq will ultimately create a separate nation for Al Qaeda and put Iran in control of some of the most oil-rich portions of Iraq. And Afghanistan is probably not far from going the same route.
