Rove's Fingerprints?

Back in 2002 American Idol first appeared on FOX television. If you are not familiar with this program, let's just say it's an 'instant celebrity' production where vocalists are introduced to the public and viewers are encouraged to 'vote' for their favorite performers. In May of 2006 it was reported that 66 million votes were cast for the various vocalists. In May of 2008, more than 97.5 million votes were recorded, a total slightly less than the number of votes reported for the 2004 presidential election.

American Idol is entertainment. It does not appeal to those seeking education, enlightenment, or a broader world view. It has a huge audience as demonstrated by the number of 'voters,' many of whom are obviously not eligible to vote in regular elections;( yet.) . When inspired by such entertainment and celebrity, they do indeed vote.

Enter our old friend and political operative Karl Christian Rove who left the Republican Administration recently and now is a political analyst and contributor to FOX news. He is also an advisor to the McCain for President Campaign. Wikepedia provides a short bio on Karl Rove and includes the fact that although Rove never completed college he became a political operative at an early age and has spent his adult life behind the scenes. His list of credits includes John Ashcroft, and of course, George Bush. I would suggest that Karl Rove's fingerprints are all over the Sarah Palin nomination and offer the following.

Having watched Rove for many years, I can only say that this latest move is simply another act of his political brilliance. The intent is obviously to take a minor politician and through proven methods turn her into an international celebrity. So far, it's working and Sarah Palin is being judged by the criteria that one would apply to a celebrity, rather than a politician. She is photogenic, brassy, and has a background that would seem to appeal to certain females, outdoors men, and conservative voters who base opinions on religious beliefs.

Given these demographics, Rove excels with his distinctive tactics of manipulation of the masses. Already, some Republican connected businesses are manufacturing and selling "Sarah Palin" dolls. Don't be surprised if you see a site identified as "Walmart Shoppers for Palin," for such is the way of these shrewd operatives. They seek to present an image that will appeal to certain mainstream voters who frequently base their decisions on other than actual qualifications or leadership abilities. There are millions of such among us as evidenced by the results of the last two Presidential elections.

Much has been written about John McCain's age and past. Not much is known about Sarah Palin except that which has been disclosed by the McCain campaign since she is a new face on the National scene.

It was P.T. Barnum who quipped "There's a sucker born every minute". It was Karl Rove who has made this his mantra; and has turned it into a national movement.

As a note to the Conservative voter, you might take another look at your Bible and review Luke 5-36:

He told them this parable. "No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on to an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old.
