Polling Shows Republicans Are Crashing
There's a place for conservatism in the US, but a very shrinking place for the corrupt, theofascist, xenophobic politics of the current republican party. That's why the percentage of people who identify themselves as Republican is plummetting.

Reinstate the Fired Attorneys
It's clear. They were fired illegally to stop investigations. They should be reinstated and put back to work on their investigations-- or-- the congress should give them jobs as special prosecutors. Let them do their jobs without the clear partisan interference of the Bush corrupted Justice department.

Cleaning up the Augean Stables

Hercules had to divert a river to clean out the King's stables. Americans have an equally daunting job cleaning up the multiple Katrinas that the Bush administration has inflicted upon all spheres of American life, business and government. The congress should start a special project to identify the damage and clean it up. It would include:
-gerrymandering
-elimination of regulations
-bad regulations put in place to protect corporations from abuses
-signing statement by Bush
-non-competitive contracts and sweetheart deals
-corporate abuses that have not been monitored, pursued or prosecuted
-rampant corruption
-abuses of power
-appointments of bad people
-inappropriate or illegal "interim" appointments

It appears that the Rush to pass the flawed Holt bill has been delayed. There are serious problems with this well intended bill. We're covering it, as we always have covered e-voting, since we were founded. We have articles on the latest issues surrounding this incredibly important issue that we're very proud of. OpEdNews has become one of the, if not THE prime places for reporting on voting issues. We don't engage in a lot of fanfare, but we have many of the leaders of the voting integrity movement routinely posting updates on what's going on in the field. I take credit for being smart enough to discover and support our incredible, wonderful voting integrity editor, Joan Brunwasser.

Reaching our End of Month Financial Needs.
I'm not going to call this a fundraising goal. We need to pay our bills. The numbers I've been discussing have been absolute minimums we need to get through the month. We are about $600 short at this point, with two days to go. Come on readers, help us start April with a head start, not a deficit. We need a bit over $2500 a month to cover our overhead and expenses. We're gradually getting people to commit to monthly contributions, but so far, we're not even a tenth of the way there yet for monthyly commitments. Donate Here

Grant Progress
Back in February, I submitted a grant proposal-- a small one-- for $5000. I just got word we made it to the second level of screening. It's for a specific project. Once we implement it, we're going to ask every US reader (about 74% of our overall readership) to help us make the most of the project. Matter of fact, in the next year, I'd like to start working on a number of projects that involve participation of our 5,000+ members.

Suggest a Project For OpEdNewsers.

We have a lot of tools within the OpEdNews website and the ability and willingness to implement more capabilities. I'd like to start working on specific projects that tap the power of OpEdNews and the web. Have an idea? Let me know. Let's make it happen. The more people the project has to potential to engage, the better.

We're making progress. Now we can run on both anger and hope.

Let's keep going, stronger than ever,

Hostage Crisis Repeated
The Mullahs in Iran are planning to do to Blair what they did to Jimmy Carter! The arrest of 15 British sailors was a very carefully orchestrated effort on the part of the Mullahs to extract the same concessions they received from the United States in 1980 - that kept their regime alive!

Veto This
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is right to point Unitary Executive George W. Bush toward a copy of the Constitution. The President (should Bush care to resume that legal role) is permitted to veto bills but not to write them. In particular, the President cannot rewrite legislation after it has been voted on and before he signs it. Nor can any member of Congress.

DOJ Emails Illustrate Plan To Mislead Congress
The common thread in the thousands of pages of documents released by the Department of Justice in conjunction with a Congressional probe into the US attorney dismissals is that top officials in the DOJ who worked behind the scenes believed that they were doing something improper in selectively dismissing the attorneys and acted with a clear intent to deceive lawmakers if any questions into reasons for the firings arose.

BUSH STILL DODGING THE TRUTH
The worst enemy of the Cheney/Bush administration is the truth. For if the truth is allowed to penetrate the bubble of executive branch hubris and denial ~ the whole corrupt, arrogant and self serving facade of this administration would be stripped away and its rotten core would be there for the world to see . As such, The ONION satirically reports on how the Secret Service is prepared to keep that very thing from happening .

A Veto Is A Vote For Eternal War
For George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, 2008 is too soon to end a war that they intend to last forever. 2008 is too soon to stop constructing enormous military bases in Iraq and abandon them. 2008 is too soon to bring our men and women home to their families and the criminally inadequate health care and nonexistent job assistance that we travel around the world to murder whole nations in defense of.
