Nervous but RIGHT on the Obama Canadian Slur.

I posted my article yesterday, with a bit of trepidation, suggesting that Right wing Canadian PM Steven Harper might have something to do with the nastiness regarding the Obama Memo put out by the Canadian embassy in Chicago. So it was very gratifying to see that the leader of Canada’s NDP party agreed with me. And that’s not a wild claim. I spoke to the press secretary for the NDP and there’s also a youtube video you can see. My article today explores the connection between the right wing Canadian leadership and the slur at Obama.

The Mythical Masthead.

Today or tomorrow, we’ll be posting our Editorial staff masthead, which I, duh, forgot to include the link to in my announcement yesterday (making it even more mythical?) Here’s the masthead link.  BTW, some readers mixed up Banner—the box at the top of the website, with masthead, which is a listing of the editorial and administrative staff for a publication.  We will soon be adding several categories to the masthead, besides what we already have—Special Topics Editors.

Could you be a special  topics editor?

The idea of being a topic editor is to cover a specific topic or location. You can write about it, but I'm hoping you'll also do quicklinks to offsite articles on the topic and, most desirable, that you will act as a recruiter, inviting writers who write about, care about and are passionate about the topic to become regulars on OpEdNEws.  That can often start with writing for permission to re-print an article you post FOR the writer.

My top example of what a person can do with a special topic is Joan Brunwasser, who was the first OEN editor to take on a special topic. Herspecial topic is voting integrity.  Primarily through her efforts, OpEdNews has over 15,000 articles on the topic and most of the top names in voting integrity  activism are members, posting articles to the site. If you saw UNCOUNTED, then you saw a lot of our writers.  Joan has repeatedly said to me, “Really, can I do that?” when we’ve talked about new projects. And she’s done amazing things she’s never done before. She’s met a world of new friends and colleagues, attended multiple conferences and events on her OpEdNews press credentials and has even been a speaker. It can happen to you and, like Joan, you don’t have to be an expert… yet. You can just care about, be passionate about the subject.

Drop me a line if you’re interested. Describe what special topics you are interested in and tell me about yourself, including where you are located and a number you can be reached at.

-Rob on the Radio; Thurs. 8-9 EST --

I"ll be co-hosting my radio show thursday, 8-9 PM EST, with Guest Bruce Fein Impeachment expert, republican lawyer during Watergate, now supporting impeachment of Bush and Cheney;   Listen on AM 1360 in S. Jersey and Philly, or listen online here.

Talk about headaches.

Today, a nutcase who doesn’t like the message some of our writers deliver decided to hurt my other means of gaining a living.

The (fill in your description of this man) contacted people who were listed as speakers at meetings I’ve run in the past. He complained to them that I was publishing articles by a writer who was advocating for the issue he is on the other side of.  It’s a nasty move. He wrote me, telling me one of my speakers had responded to him, One of your past speakers said that you had a bigger heart than brain.”

That may be true. But I also passionately believe that it’s important to keep the doors open for expressing different ideas. Anyway, hows that for a segue to fundraising? OEN’s fundraising for the past five days is way behind. The problem with not having any foundation support is we depend 100% upon YOUR donations. In January, you came through. In February, up until the last few days, you came through. But we need that kind of support every week, every month. After a few days where the flow of donations drops to a trickle, I start to worry, even wake up in the middle of the night. Sure things are tight. But every day, I hear from readers who tell me OpEdNews is the best, their favorite site, doing great work.  Well we need your support to keep on going. So, please,

contribute to OpEdNews today.

Have a great one,
