Health care is trending toward disastrous for all but the chosen. Krugman targets republicans for this condition.
I target the ruling class. This includes high ranking democrats. The more ineffectual this group becomes, the less competent and the more insecure, the stronger its effort to undermine the very possibility of public resistance to authority.
Enabling the incumbent while making fun of him, in this instance abetting his efforts to hold us hostage to health care, is a tactic unlikely to be forestalled merely by electing some better politicians. We the electors must engage in political process differently than in the past.
People manning phone banks to get-out-the-vote must sell their movements first. They must make it clear that the candidates they prefer are merely instruments of their goals. In other words, the political office will be filled by the movement, the elected one playing her appropriate role in the chess game, no more and no less.
Many people identified with the right make that choice because they see no strong enough alternative. The young especially tend to sense the pathology of society today. Many crave to engage with others in the creation of wellness. Activism today must honor this craving. Indivisible, Our Revolution, Brand New Democracy The movement in Texas to install Beto O'Rourke, and others must emphasize their candidates' qualities less and their movements' resolve more. All must vocally prioritize transforming the democratic party into a full instrument of the public, with full admission of how tough this will be. No phony hype, just sober honesty and an invitation. Thus will the tipping point explode, bloom and spread.
