Defusing Situations...

As a middle child, I often felt like the mediator in the family looking to defuse conflicts with win-win scenerios. As a business professional, I look to find a win-win scenario for my client and the business.

What if we never look to defuse situations or look for a win-win?

Imagine if firemen used gas instead of water to put out fires. This would not accomplish the goal, but it would be neat to watch.

Imagine if political and religious leaders promoted civil unrest, invasion of countries for resources and/or religious bias. The leaders may get the resources they want, but at what cost?

Now imagine, the firemen used water or other resources to contain the fire and put it out. This would not be as neat to watch, but lives and property would be saved.

Now imagine, political leaders that worked to integrate countries into the international community and onto sustainable energies, so they are not as dependent on a particular resource to support their people. This week, Obama is doing more than just imagine. He is looking to defuse the situation in the Middle East and build support going forward.

Our next President and our future political leaders have a tremendous responsibility to continue this effort in the Middle East and with many other countries around the world. This will take many years (possibly decades) to achieve.
