My Coda

Several years ago a friend of mine recommended that I submit my writing online. My first piece was called "The Man Behind the Curtain". It dealt with the Bush administration and their propensity for subterfuge. It would be a recurring theme and over 100 articles later (my archive is missing the first year and a half of my articles), I have come to a crossroads that will lead me away from the incessant negativity and draining effort to constantly respond to the increasing injustice in this country and this world.

Today a victory was had over the forces that have hijacked this country for the past five years. It is a good victory. It was a sound victory. I have made no bones about the fact that I do not view the Democratic Party is any kind of panacea, but checks and balances are essential for this country and for that reason alone, we should all celebrate. As my last article indicates though, there is so much work to do if true change would occur. The next two years will bring more challenges and much material for many many more articles. They will have to be written by someone else though. My time has passed for now.

I write this primarily for all of those who have supported me for the past few years as we banded together to fight the good fight. The hard cold fact is that when I started my writing it was more needed than it is today. Back then the movement had just started and people like Rob Kall stepped up to the plate to put a new face on the progressive cause and he is to be commended for his tireless efforts to take opednews to heights we could only have dreamed of just a few years ago. He provided me a platform to voice my opinions and I thank him for his friendship. I also thank those who have supported me personally and those who I have persuaded over the years. They know that I believe in the truth, period. I do not waver or compromise on it. I believe what I have written, and have written what I believe.

But those who know me also know that I feel called by God. Yes, it is possible to have a progressive Christian in this country. Christianity is not defined by the religious right, which has hijacked the true cause of Christianity for political expediency. It is not defined by me. It is defined by the Word of God only. While I enjoy writing tremendously, it takes so much effort to continue the pace which has been set over the past few years and it detracts from the works I have to do for the kingdom of God.

That effort, the effort to write perpetually, goes unnoticed but trust me it is daunting. It requires processing multiple news reports daily, checking facts, cross checking, monitoring the corporate media, writing and of course editing. Not to mention responding to any reaction. I had decided that if checks and balances were restored tonight, I would diminish.

I will still stop by every now and again. Might do an article per month or so. Those that I choose to do will probably have a more Christian-political flavor, than just political. But the pace of the past few years cannot continue. There are so many more writers on the cause now that I do not need to anymore. Of course I am still very reactionary to social injustice, so you never know; but my intent is to take the fork in the road I have come to (my homage to Yogi).

I thank everyone who has come alongside the fight and encouraged me. I sincerely hope that the democrats take advantage of the historic results today to truly change Congress. Remember, don't put party over country. If the dems start slipping into the business as usual mantra, it will require the progressives to step up and hold them accountable as we held the GOP today. It has been a tiring but fun ride. I am relieved today for the change in this country and hope that in some small way, I contributed.
