Some April Thoughts

Happy April Fool's Day.  I'm still hoping the Conficker virus is an April Fool's
joke.  So far, have no idea.  They say that it may be in some computers already.

Tuned into CBN - and heard some practical advice on how to kick the sugar
habit.  AVOID ALL SUGAR FOR A WEEK.  Having done this (and Holy Week is a great
time to try),  your sugar appetite will disappear or diminish considerably.
Whose game?  - Hopefully, someone who consumes way too much sugar.

I also learned that we shouldn't have more than 2000 calories a day, and they
gave wonderful pointers on how to keep track - from the easy - checking the
label to the more difficult- by measuring or weighing your liquids and food.
I imagine that Weight Watchers requires their members to keep a daily record
of calorie intake too.

Pouring in cream in your coffee - you may think you're pouring 1 tablespoon
by eye-balling it.  No, they say - measure it.  THE BIG THING FOR WEIGHT LOSS
IS COUNTING CALORIES.  Yes, we said we knew this but still tried at least a
100 different diets.  Kidding - but now they're saying - its not the diet - its the
CALORIES.

3500 calories equals a pound of fat.  So if you want to lose 1 pound of fat - by
lessoning 500 calories each day for a week - you will lose a pound of fat.  So
it is much harder to lose a pound of fat than to gain a pound which is so
very easy to do.

A delicious tofu dessert --If you have never used firm Silken Tofu- put it in
the food processor and add about 6 ounces of melted dark chocolate bits.
Give it a good whirr and I guarantee it is finger-licking good.  It's like chocolate
mousse but probably more healthy, less caloric, and and oh so delicious -
especially in the frig after a couple of hours.   I shouldn't have made it during
the Lenten week - but the tofu needed to be used.  But I made up for my
indulgence.  I found some out of date Jasmine Green Tea.  Just awful - I thought
I was drinking perfume.  Ready to throw it out, but felt - no, that it is wrong to
waste food.  I could mix it with regular green tea.  And by the way, I sometimes
use my coffee maker to brew tea which I learned from a friend.

Only a couple of inches of snow for March in NE Ohio making it one of the
least snowy Marches to date.  No complaints from me!

Bought 80 more pounds of bird seed.  This will be it until November.  I am
amazed that I can lift 40 pounds!  I do have a little wheel cart that helps me bring it to the porch where I dump it into a large container for easy access all during the wintertime.

Well, I really don't have to bathe my almost white Casey who is part Samoyed.  It seems - that many
times I let her out and then suddenly a down pour of rain or wet snow and I forget
she is out.  When she comes in dripping wet - she gets a nice towel rub down.
She's very good about this.  In fact - I'm surprised she doesn't bark to come in.
But I believe her former owner wasn't always too vigilant about her needs in winter.

I have been concerned about animal suffering ever since
I received my first puppy Peaches in 1975. She made me take a good look at the animal kingdom and I was shocked to see how badly we treat so many animals. At 77, I've been a vegan for the (more...)
